Why CNG? Why JGD?

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a real-world possibility for alternative fueling.  The technology and standards for CNG have been well known for over 20 years, and it is implemented in many familiar vehicle platforms.  Many airports use CNG for Shuttle buses.  Municipal bus lines use CNG for local routes, and increasingly, service vehicles are appearing  with this fuel format.  It’s attractive in these captive fleets because of the ability to control refueling centers.  Like petroleum liquid fuels, Compressed Natural Gas packages quick refueling with extended range.

CNG can be used as a singular fuel, or as an A-B choice on vehicles.  Prime movers such
as gasoline and diesel piston engines and even turbines can be readily adapted to run on natural gas.  There is no appreciable performance loss with CNG, and in fact, studies indicate that higher engine life and extended maintenance intervals are benefits of CNG fuels.  The untaxed price of CNG is said to be about one-third that of petroleum liquids.  Unlike so-called “bio-fuels,” CNG would not normally be expected to require subsidized treatment to be competitive with liquid fuels.
